AB Ventures : Our First Onboarding Program
25 year old Nim Pem travelled all the way from another state of Chhukha to Thimphu inorder to apply for the job opportunity at AB Ventures. She had to move back to her village after the covid-pandemic caused her to lose her job at a travel agency that shortly closed down. Nim Pem shares how keen and excited she was to start working and earning a name for herself after her graduation but those dreams were stunted with the arrival of the novel coronavirus. Nim Pem is one of AB venture’s first 25 employees and this story of hers is no different than others.
“Bhutanese are indeed fortunate to have His Majesty the King guiding us under whose leadership, we are able to overcome all hurdles along the way. That being said, His Majesty has also constantly emphasized and called upon the youth to take part in building our country.
“Moving forward, to further build on our achievements, we must now muster the active involvement and support of our youth. Demographically, we have a large proportion of young people who can make a significant difference if given the opportunity. The youth of Bhutan embody vigor and energy, and they are ready to serve without fear or hesitation when needed. I am always profoundly heartened when I hear their aspirations and see their enthusiasm.”His Majesty King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck
Accordingly, AB Ventures started as a vision to fulfill our benevolent king’s dream of making our country great by involving the youths. Our Executive Director, Mr.Kinley Tshering has rightly shared, “When the world is filled with the gloom and doom of Covid-19, we want to light a candle than curse the darkness… Today we are turning a wheel, hoping to follow the wisdom and clarifying call of our king in involving the youth in developing the country”.
This vision of ours is supported by our Australian partner company Workforce BluePrint. Launched in 2016 by Ms.Wendy Perry, Workforce Blueprint aims in solving problems in the workforce by developing 21st century workforces skills and world-class education systems that are suited to the kinds of jobs emerging and being prominent in future.
“This partnership reflects the warm and friendly relation shared between the government of Australia and Bhutan, which has grown ever since the establishment of formal diplomatic relations in 2002. Our goal is to develop and disseminate an entirely new paradigm and practice of collaboration networks of partnerships between private businesses working together to create a globally prosperous society.” says our Managing Director, Mr Rikesh Gurung.
Likewise, the vision has now turned to reality, and the 1st of May is an important date for AB Ventures as the whole team officially started our first step towards the journey of a thousand miles. 25 of our passionate and proactive employees (14 women and 11 men) were joined by the founding members in an onboarding program that congratulated our new members. The employees were awarded khadar (silk offering scarf) along with company masks and an envelope that consisted of three personal letters of motivation and appointment by our founders. Prominent words of wisdom were also shared with the 25 employees. For instance, Mr. Vijay Gurung exclaimed, “Remember skills can be developed over the period but don’t forget your principles. We don’t want you to change who you are for us. We want you to change for your own good.”
The program also guided the employees with the expectations of the company regarding their code of conduct while also explaining the module for the training period. Soon after that, the entire team assembled in a circle to introduce and share moments of laughter and joy with the new found family.
The program ended with an emphasis on how despite the different paths travelled so far, the journey ahead will be walked together as a team.
